Install Ubuntu on HP xw8400 RAID

OK... I'm new to Linux and I'm trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop onto a HP xw8400 that's using the onboard hardware RAID (Intel Matrix) to configure 3 disks as a RAID 5 array.

Ubuntu starts up from the CD OK, and see's the array without problem. The installation then proceeds to virtually the end (as far as I can tell) before fatally telling me it cannot install GRUB on dev\sda.

It then gives the option to pick another location for GRUB and in the list is the RAID array as seen earlier. I choose the array for the GRUB location and the installation says it has successfully completed but on restart all I get is a flashing cursor in the top left corner of the screen and nothing else.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi there,

you have to install ubuntu on ext4 partition.
