Yes. I can run it from the live cds but it will not install from the live
cd or boot from the cd. On the web I see that many people have this
problem , but so far I have not seen any solution that I have seen that
works for me.

It should install from the live-CD if you set the boot option into the kernel boot line .

I tried nomodeset but could not advance after selecting nomodeset after
pressing F6.
Enter key just adds or removes the X to the left of nomodeset.
Some one ask what happens when I try to load 12.04 from the live cd. or
upgrade from 11.10. It starts to load but after two hours it seems to be
hung . The circle is still spinning ,but there is no cpu or modem activity.

Hi All:
I did a clean install of 11.10 and all its updates. Then Upgraded to 12.04.
It worked this time. Have no idea why the cds would not install 12.04. I
think 12.04 is working OK now. Thanks for all your inputs.
Call this problem solved.

Hey mac , good to know you're back on track .
It could be the optical/CD-ROM drive that was causing the troublesome! or the installer got interpreted if you where trying something in the live cd environment .. it occurred to me few times while i was using the partition tool Gparted.
Anyhow , i believe you're the one how can mark this Question as solved :) .
some links i'd advice you to have a look at :
