Creating USB bootup on windows for mac?

Asked by kriltos

I own a Macbook which is completely wiped, so no OS. cant install SL and i have a windows laptop to work with.

Pretty much given up with installing a mac OSX and wanted to get Ubuntu as the main OS. so my question is, "Can i make a USB flash drive on a windows machine to boot up on a mac for installation?"

so far im coming up short

(if anyone knows how to sort out my SL problem that would be cool aswell ! haha i get an error saying " Unable to install Mac OSX on this machine")

If you want to install Linux via a USB, try this.

http://www.linuxliveusb.com/

It is the only program I use for creating install USB's. You can also use it to install application files. Just start it up, find your target drive and your ISO and hit the start button.

Nope. good try tho. i think your answer is more suited for booting it to a Windows computer.

Haha none of them answer my question. cheers for trying tho.

I think it cant be done. I'm seeing a friend of mine tomorrow, he has a Macbook Air, I;m pretty confident it'll work he we use that machine to create a bootable USB for my macbook.

Bloody cross converting !!!! i really dont like Windows... well only good for games. thats about it !

Go here and jump to section (2):
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download

Click "USB" and "Mac" and then click on the "Show me How" button.

The instructions seems to require that you have a working Max OS to do the conversion on however. If you know what/how it is doing it you might be able to find other tools to do the job.
