Ubuntu is poorly optimized for slower computers

Asked by Name Withheld

I almost want to call this a bug.

Ubuntu 11.4 and 10.10 are bolth very VERY slow on my old decked Pentium 4 (as in it has had graphics card upgrade (NVIDIA GeForce4 440 with AGP8X again its a pentium 4) a DVD drive put on it, upgraded to a GB of RAM and a 80GB HD)

It can run Ubuntu but it is so very slow and it drives me crazy.

Really the biggest problem is unresponsive ness, it freezes up quite often and it is hard to press buttons when you have to monitor that button to make sure it launches what it is suppose to.

Also a little side note, Ubuntu is really terrible at flash and java on any computer.

I actually use Kubuntu, but I just wanted to say that Ubuntu is optimized poorly.

I might give Lubuntu and Xubuntu a try though.

With a Pentium 4, you could have a look at lighter distributions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightweight_Linux_distribution
