Have you done these steps?

http://psychocats.net/ubuntu/usb

What exactly is happening, are you getting any errors, or do you not know what to do with the pieces you have?

It sounds like you are not booting the CD/DVD drive at all.

A "dll" file is a file used by the microsoft windows family of operating systems, and thus I believe that there is a broken windows install on your computer at the moment. Thats not a problem, it just means that you have not initiated the ubuntu boot CD.

Can you check in your bios that the boot order has CD at the top, followed by USB device?

Are you sure you have created the boot disk correctly? How did you make the boot disk?

I down loaded through Safari to my computer than made a copy of it to cd-dvd. It show the os on dvd but will not down load, I got a copy of unbuntu live from another source. A computer shop down the road.

I can not even access the command line. I am starting to the master boot record is corrupted. I am wondering if I access a wire less lan I could then get even enough to open a window.

You cannot simply copy the ISO to a CD/DVD -- that won't make a boot disc. You have to unpack the contents of the ISO, using programs like NERO, or any other CD/DVD program
