The following steps describe the most probable reasons. After each step, you should retry search and/or download to see if the problem still persists. If any of the step solves the problem then skip the rest, you're done.

1. Check software firewall settings
-------------------------------------------

Its possible that a software firewall blocks DC++ access to the Internet. You must make sure that the currently installed version of DC++ is allowed in the software firewall(s) you run. Don't skip this even if you think you don't have software firewall installed and especially if your problems started after a DC++ version upgrade. 2. Make sure automatic connectivity setup is enabled
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Most times DC++ is able to set up your connection automatically. To make sure this function enabled, open File menu / Settings / Connectivity pane and make sure the 'Let DC++ determine the best connectivity settings' box is checked.

3. Try to set up active mode manually
---------------------------------------------------------

If automatic connectivity setup cannot help you beeing active here's our detailed webhelp FAQ how to setup your connection manually in DC++ : http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/webhelp/faq_connection.html

4. Set passive mode manually as a last resort
---------------------------------------------------------

If you still have the problem then you can try passive mode as the last resort. Open File menü / Settings / Connectivity pane and uncheck the 'Let DC++ determine the best connectivity settings' box. Open the Manual Connection pane, select 'Passive mode (last resort - has serious limitations)' setting below. If this setting works, it will result limited connectivity (some users may connectable some are not).

5. Check if DC is blocked or throttled
----------------------------------------------

Its possible that your Internet Provider or the organization where you using DC++ blocks or throttles DC file transfers. This can be a full block or it maybe in effect in some parts of a day. You must ask the ISP hotline / system administrator if they use such techinques.

5. Check if you are firewalled externally
-------------------------------------------------

Its possible that your Internet Provider or the organization where you using DC++ has an external firewall. You must ask the ISP hotline / system administrator for more information.
