Zim doesn't remember the window size

I've been a Zim user for a many years. However, now when I updated to Ubuntu 16.04, Zim seems to forget all the window settings I do. I want Zim to open as maximized window and without right side pane, but every time I boot my computer and open Zim again, I have to maximize it by hand and remove the right sidebar. Of course it's not a big thing, but earlier in my Xubuntu 14.04 installation it used to work just fine.

Are there some old settings lurking somewhere, or what would be the problem?

All settings are saved per notebook in the notebook folder in
".zim/state.conf" (notice the "." in the start, this makes the folder
hidden in most cases). Or alternatively in your home folder under
"~/.config/zim/". If somehow that file is not written correctly settings
will not be remembered.

If you suspect errors in zim that prevent the writing, try starting zim
from a terminal with "zim --debug" and check for errors in the output.
