last seen email alerts

Asked by David

I set up email alerts yesterday along with a scheduled task for the maintenance script. One of my displays is causing this message frequently: Display DS2 with ID 5 was last seen at 2011-03-04 09:50:42. When I VNC to this machine I see nothing wrong with the display. I am trying to get to the bottom of this and would like to know how the client contact to the server occurs so I can troubleshoot. Can you shed some light on this?

Thanks

What's the collection interval on the client and the alert timeout
you've set both globally and on that client specficially? Also what
version of Xibo are you using?

I have two clients set up the same. They are both version 1.2, both have 900 seconds as the collection interval. Both have alert timeout set to 0. The global timeout is 12 minutes. I did not change this during setup. It does seem that my alerts happen frequently on the 15 minute mark which would coincide with the 900 seconds but I'm not clear on how all this works together to form a solution. I would think that both displays would be creating similar alerts but it is just one, not both.

You need to increase your alert timeout to a time longer than your collection interval.

In effect, you're saying that the server should alert you if it hasn't seen the client in 12 minutes, but the client is set to talk to the server only every 15 minutes, so you will get frequent alerts.

1.2 isn't a Xibo version. If you're running 1.2.0 then the reconnection alerts are broken in that version.

Yes, running 1.2.0. What is meant by reconnection alerts are broken? I am receiving alerts but only for a single client however they are both setup the same. Is a reconnection alert not what I'm receiving?

It means that you won't get a message to tell you that the client has
come back online, in the same way that you're getting a message
telling you that it has gone offline.

I'd recommend you start by upgrading to 1.2.2. If you're still having
a problem post upgrade then we can talk about it some more.
