region background color

Asked by David

Is there a way to set the region's background color to something other than black? I have multiple media types in a single region such as powerpoint show, then a video, then images, etc. Each one has a different aspect ratio so I can't alter my region for a single item. The background of my presentation is navy blue so the black really stands out.

Thanks

Yes. In the background properties of the layout.

Is it possible to set it to something not in the list?

No. At the moment it's limited to those colours.

You could make a 1x1 pixel image the correct colour, upload that and
set it as the background image. Just make sure it's a JPEG and not a
PNG or GIF.

Alex, thanks for the quick response. I have a background image already designed where the color matches the logo for the company. My background boxes have several design effects which the region doesn't support natively. I was trying to match the exact color of the region to my background image for seamless display. Sounds like my only option is to try and find a color that is very close.

You should make the background you already have fill the screen then
by choosing the correct aspect ratio for your displays.

I thought about that but as I pointed out in my original post, I have numerous media types in a single region, all with different aspect ratios. Maybe there's an alternative to that such as overlapped regions but I'm not sure how I could get the timing to work doing that. Does that sound feasible or am I just stuck?

I changed the back color but I didn't see any effect. By having a background image, does the region ignore the back color option? I restarted the client as well but no dice.

I don't really understand what you're trying to achieve.

The intension is that you have a background image set on the layout
(using the background properties).

You then draw regions that do not overlap over the background image
and put media in those.

Assuming you've then setup the aspect ratio of your displays properly,
you won't see the layout background at all, only the background
picture.

If the background image isn't covering it, then it's not background.
It's the area outside the layout which is always black.

If you set the correct aspect ratio for your display, that area will
then become part of the background.

You just have it setup wrong.

What resolution are the displays you're using?

1920x1080
1366x768
1280x720

etc

I'll try and explain a little better. I have a background image, works fine, fills up the whole screen as expected. I have a news ticker region at the bottom, weather and time date regions at the right. My main content area is where I am having some issues. I am showing a powerpoint show followed by a movie. The powerpoint scales well to my region, the movie is widescreen format so there is black on top and bottom of the movie where no content is showing while the movie is playing. I think you are telling me that I need to scale my movie to fill that area but I don't think the movie would look good in 4:3 as it would be a bit stretched. So I was wondering if that black area could be changed to match my background image color. I hope that makes more sense.

OK. That has nothing to do with the background. That's Windows Media
Player scaling the video to fill the space and it adds black bars.

That can't be changed.

Ah ha. That would also apply to a powerpoint player as well correct?

I'm pretty sure it does.

Why not you add the "Region Background" feature so that one may select different backgrounds for different regions on the same layout? Though it be only color (not any image). It's just a suggestion. Would like to know your view.

Take a look in the layout exchange for how this is achieved currently - by having a layout with coloured boxes on it. We do it this way because you can make your layout look far nicer than having solid colours in regions.
