Lock template

Asked by Kolbrink

Hello and good morning,

I am searching for a narrowcasting implementation for our corporation here and I came by the Xibo project yesterday. Now, this will almost perfectly fill our needs, but still I have some questions:

1) Is it possible to lock a template layout, so users with few rights can only alter the text or images in that region?

2) Is it possible to run a presentation as a screensaver on PC?

Thank you for your time, Xibo is a wonderful product that can fill many narrowcasting needs! Compliments!

Regards,
Jasper Kolbrink

Hi,

See answers below:

1) As far as my understanding goes it is only possible to lock the users out of layouts as a whole, and not down to the individual regions. I believe this question has been asked before, and may have been added as a blueprint for possible adding at a later date

2) This is something I would like also, and is not currently available. There has been some talk about this being possible in the future.

Cheers, Matt

Hello Matthey,

Now that's a quick reply! Thank you.

If I look in the manual, there is a text about the Media manager dashboard. It says:
"This icon provides the user with a direct link to the region of the template that they have been delegated."

Now, I think this is the option I mentioned in question #1, tho I cannot find it in my own server (1.0.6) settings. Is this a >1.0.6 option?

Regards,
Jasper

1) See the following blueprints:
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/xibo/+spec/locking-region-size-and-position
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/xibo/+spec/content-streams

The first is what you're after. Subscribe to the blueprint to get notified when things change. The second would allow you to setup a user who can only change the content of one region. You'd then be able to reuse that region on any of your layouts.

2) Not currently.
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/xibo/+spec/xibo-screensaver

Again subscribe to the blueprint for notification if things change.

We don't link to that version of the manual anymore. I'm not sure where you found it.

That documentation refers to an unreleased propriatory version of Xibo which is no longer developed that was the basis for the Xibo we have today.

It's functionality we intend to reinstate in the future, but doesn't work at the moment so is hidden.

Ah, that makes things clear, thank you.

The link is in the FAQ:
https://answers.launchpad.net/xibo/+faq/383

There's where I got it. I'l subscribe to the blueprint and wish you all the luck with the program. I'm a graphics designer so maybe I can help by making a template pack for Xibo.
