Unable to install ubuntu in Windows 8

I have Windows 8 . First I used window installer but was unable to install. Then I manually downloadedISO files. Even after running the Wubi, the error occurred.

Then I create a partition. Save the .iso and Wubi installer in the drive. Then I run the Wubi in the .iso folder. It successfully installed. But when I reboot it shows an error that

    the os has either corrupted / missing files.

    file : \Ubuntu\winboot\wubilder.mbr

    error :0xc000007b

I am installing Ubuntu for the first time. So I don't know much about it.

Hi Pallavi ,

this seems like a filesystem(NTFS) problem. Uninstall Ubuntu then do a check in the filesystem and a defrag to the hard disk from within Windows.
After the check and defrag finish , install again Ubuntu (wubi.exe) and retest.

Ubuntu Wubi.exe is nothing more than a program installed inside Windows.
You can uninstall it from Control Panel. You have to know that this is not a regular installation , is more likely for testing proposes , to see the Operating System (Ubuntu) before you decide to install it properly.

I uninstalled Ubuntu . Don't know what to do in file system check and defragmented c: drive only.

Should I install Ubuntu again using wubi.exe of window installer or from that .iso folder.

When above done re-install Ubuntu using wubi.exe and see if working better.

Hi

Thank you for the responses. No errors were found . And I defragmented c: drive to create a new drive u: and I saved both wubi.exe and Ubuntu.iso files in there.

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?
What did you do with the ISO to make it usable?

If your computer came with windows8 then Wubu almost certainly wont work as new Windows 8 machines use GPT disks which Wubi does not support see here:

You should however be able to dual boot. I have not tried this myself but take a look here:

The 2nd link you provided needs to have 64 bit Ubuntu . Can I go with 32 bit ?

I don't think so Part of Windows 8 is secure boot which means that the OS needs to be signed. Cannonical have paid to sign 12.04.2 and 12.10 64-bit but not 32-bit
