not able to get Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS to install correctly

Asked by Douglas Harrison

Have just tried, unsuccessful to get Ubuntu 12.04.1. LTS to install. I am, at the moment using Windows 7 home premium. Used the Windows installer wubi. When the system reboots the follow message appears " try (hd0,0):NTSF5: error: "prefix" is not set.
Have tried a reinstall with the same result. Any one got any thoughts on this.

Cheers
Douglas

I suggest to install Ubuntu alongside Windows and not inside Windows
(wubi).

Take a look in this Video tutorial:

The prefix not set and Try (hd0,0) are normal display messages on 12.04 wubi. So try to describe exactly what happens after that.

For example, there are often graphics problems depending on the card, so it might be booting with a black screen. Or dropping to a grub prompt. Etc. There's no way to figure this out based on the messages you described.
