After Ram upgrade, are there any adjustments needed?

Asked by Stephen Smith

I have an HP Pavilion dv7 series notebook with an AMD A8 APU (Quad-core processor with integrated Radeon graphics) and a 750Gb hard disk. I am running dual operating systems : Windows 7 Home Premium-64bit and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS-64bit.

I have recently upgraded my Ram memory from 6GB to 16Gb (matched pair of 8Gb strips). Both Windows and Ubuntu instantly recognized the 16Gb of Ram.
Does Ubuntu automatically make the most efficient use of this new memory for maximum performance?
If not, are there any software adjustments to be made? How can I affect the most efficient use of my new memory for maximum performance?

I should automatically make use of it. Enter:
free -m

This will show you how much memory in megabytes you have available, in use, free; also it will show swap file use. Refer to this for ideas on performance improvements:
