Wubi

uninstall ubuntu

Hello, I just downloaded Ubuntu onto my laptop from the official ubuntu website using wubi, windows vista is what was on it orginally. I need to uninstall it because the password i made up at the start of the installation process, ive forgotten. :( unless you know of a way to fix that instead of uninstalling the whole program would be great as i really want to try ubuntu. My friend told me its great to use.

I suppose you are running Windows. If so, follow these steps:
1) In Windows, launch Disk manager and remove every partition used by Ubuntu (root partition, swap, ...)
2) Reboot with your Windows CD. When asked, choose "reapair" and launch fixmbr. This command replaces GRUB with Windows bootloader.
3) Reboot again and you have done

The procedure given above by Muhammad bilal shahid is NOT correct--it applies to standard Ubuntu systems, but you have a Wubi system. Unlike a standard installation of Ubuntu, a Wubi system does not modify your partition layout and it does not install its own boot loader.

To remove a Wubi system, simply go into Add/Remove Programs in Windows, find Wubi, and uninstall it. When you do this, you *will* lose any files that are saved *inside* your Ubuntu system.

If you simply want to reset the password in your Wubi system, you can do that--select Ubuntu in the Windows boot menu (the boot menu that lists Windows and Ubuntu) and immediately hold down shift, select recovery mode, and follow the rest of the instructions at http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/resetpassword. Resetting your password is really a separate topic from uninstalling, so if you have trouble following that procedure or it doesn't work, please post a new question about this (https://answers.launchpad.net/wubi/+addquestion).
