Could you reinstate 16 player support?

Could you reinstate 16 player support from Stratagus 2.1? It created a useful loophole where each team color could be used twice creating a "work around" for Dual Race enemies.

In Warcraft II, there were some oddities with dual race enemies in the Alterac betrayal mission where Orange Human forces and Orange Orc forces were both controlled by the computer. This was hard coded into Warcraft II and it was not possible to reproduce Stratagus until version 2.1 where it was possible to have 16 players instead of the default 8. After the initial 8 players were used, Force 9 would be the same color as Force 1 (Red). Therefore, it was possible to have two Red opponents, one being Orc and the other being Human. Creating the illusion that the orcs and Humans were on the same team.

This was removed from Stratagus 2.2

Stratagus support up to 16 players.
in wargus, DefinePlayerColors set 8 distinct colours and then cycles as you mentionned.

So, I don't see your problem.
If the "problem" occurs in a specific campaign map, tell us which map.

I cannot save a map with player 9-15 usable. all the player characters for players 9 and on vanish. and their player settings are reverted to "None"

Are you saving a new map or an existing one?

Saving an exiting one. A Converted PUD from Stratagus 2.1 that had 16 forces. Yet after converting, it got reduced to 8. Resaving does not help.

The editor doesn't seem to save any additional attributes.
