Wallch Indicator on startup

Asked by Ryu Kaminari

Hello,

I would like to have the wallch indicator when I start the system. I mean, when I open wallch, start something, then close the window, I have a indicator where I can change to the next, previous, pause, etc. but when I reload(having Wallch to run on startup with "wallch --constant") the indicator is not there.

I think it would be good, because if I want to change the wallpaper, I don't want to open wallch, stop and start again.

Thanks.

Hi! Sorry for the late response!

You can control wallch via the icon of it on the Unity Sidebar! Doesn't this match your needs?

Yes, It does. I didn't have it locked to the launcher, I had the "minimize to tray" option selected since I installed it. though this does the work, I would prefer the indicator. Maybe you can make it optional, If I select the "minimize to tray" option, I get the indicator instead of the icon in the sidebar "if and only if" I have it locked to it.

However, It works. Thanks.

Hello

Would it be possible to have wallch minimize into an app indicator to the top right corner? I have no use of having such a program in the unity launcher, and would like to be able to minimize to systray like i can with Desura, qBittorrent, bitcoin-qt and so on.

Thanks.

Hello varikonniemi, I've thought of this request and I believe it's a good idea.

While this version cannot do such a thing, I think in the next version we will provide a checkbox under StartUp options to minimize to tray automatically and let the corresponding startup action to run.

This was not initially implemented because it requires loading the whole Graphical User Interface and it may cause a little bigger delay while loging in so as to load.

We haven't implement it, yet :/

We are currently working on a startup dialog!

But it is in our do-to list, so, don't worry!

Hello there!
I've released a testing PPA (quite stable though) with some new features, which also solves the problems you had.
You can find it here:
https://launchpad.net/~wallch/+archive/3+

Specifically, current latest versions of this ppa are:
32-bit:
https://launchpad.net/~wallch/+archive/3+/+files/wallch_3.52-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
64-bit:
https://launchpad.net/~wallch/+archive/3+/+files/wallch_3.52-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb

You can add this ppa, so as to receive updates from it as well, as following:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:wallch/3+
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install wallch

I repeat that these are testing versions of Wallch that fix some bugs and have some new features, but it is logical to have some bugs. Please, if you find any, report it at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/wallpaper-changer/+filebug

Thanks a lot!

I installed with the ppa you gave in #8 and I just loved the additions you made. Now Wallch has everything I want.

Thanks a lot.

Ok, I have a problem. Wallch starts automatically on startup (with 30 seconds delay as I set), it generates the tray icon, it starts changing wallpapers BUT it doesn't do random (random is checked). I need to open GUI, pause, make sure random is selected then start wallpaper changing manually.

Since it's not changing randomly I'm not seeing 80% of my wallpaper collection. (I'm tired of seeing the same images when I have lots of them)

Please solve this problem.

Thanks.

Mehmet I am sure that this problem has been solved to the version we are currently working at. So keep up with any updates :)

Can you help with this problem?
