Variety doesn't override system wallpaper after 22.04.01 Ubuntu upgrade

Asked by reed

Upgraded my system from Ubuntu 20.04 to 22.04 ... Variety appears but does not change or override the default system wallpaper. I have uninstalled Variety and reinstalled using Synaptic to no avail. It's as if Variety doesn't exist in terms of function, although the app appears, has all menus, etc. Ideas?

OK, I fixed it. My system display was in Dark Mode. Apparently Variety only works properly in Light Mode. Whatever! LOL

Well, I seem to be having the same problem. I'm using Pop!_OS (basically Ubuntu with some extras) and just upgraded to version 22.04 from version 20.04. Variety was working fine on the old OS version, but isn't kicking in to display the backgrounds after the upgrade. I tried reed's solution noted above, but my display was already in light mode. Any idea how I can get this working? Thanks.
