How to access update manager

Asked by Alan Goldstone

I recently downloaded Wine version 0.9.44.tar.bz2 and spent several hours trying to access it so I could extract, etc.
After spending hours on the Internet trying to even find the tar on my drive, the update manager came on and the rest is history.
How would I make the update manager become active when I want to update a new version? I don't find and item on any menu.
Thanks, Alan

just open a terminal by clicking 'Applications' in the top left on the screen. Then Accessories. type this into the terminal

sudo apt-get install wine

then press enter. after it has stopped doing stuff. Check your menus and it should be there.

Thanks for the prompt response. I learned later that the update manager is a hidden file and after I used Control+H , the update manager installed the new version of Wine.
Your answer, I'm sure would have done the job.
Thanks,
Alan
