Buttons left and top don't appear

I've installed Ubuntu 10.10 for netbooks on HP Pavilion dv4000 which before had windows XP.
After installation it restarted and the only thing i saw was a picture on the background.
I went around with the mouse which i saw and sometimes buttons appeared. I can click on the buttons and programs open.
But i still can't see the buttons on the left and the top of the screen.
When I open 2 windows and move with the mouse pointer from one to the other window the buttons become visual for less then 1 second. Is there something i can do to get those buttons on screen all the time.

Unity is still under development (that's btw. why it isn't on an LTS desktop release), so whatever issue you find, report it.
