freebirth website seems hacked?

thought i'd go figure out the intriguing interface and software-use of freebirth, the bass synth/sample player/sequencer.

the site appears to be hacked or something:
 http://www.bitmechanic.com/projects/freebirth/

googled and discovered a circa 1999 project page on freshmeat.

where could i find info on freebirth, and any news on when they're up again?
