ubuntu one re-install does not work

Asked by jeepees

Hi, I followed all your steps of FAQ #778
1. Quit the Ubuntu One client
2. $ sudo rm -rf ~/.share/local/ubuntuone
3. $ rm -rf ~/.cache/ubuntuone
4. $ rm -rf ~/.config/ubuntuone
5. $ mv ~/Ubuntu\ One/ ~/Ubuntu\ One_old/
6. Open Applications->Accessories->Passwords and Encryption Keys, go to the Passwords tab, delete the Ubuntu One token
7. $ sudo apt-get purge ubuntuone*
8. $ sudo apt-get install ubuntuone*

But at step 8, when reinstalling, it does not find anything anymore:

sudo apt-get install ubuntuone*
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Note, selecting ubuntuone-client for regex 'ubuntuone*'
Note, selecting ubuntuone-ppa-beta for regex 'ubuntuone*'
Note, selecting python-ubuntuone-storageprotocol for regex 'ubuntuone*'
Note, selecting ubuntuone-client-gnome for regex 'ubuntuone*'
Note, selecting python-ubuntuone-client for regex 'ubuntuone*'
Note, selecting ubuntuone-storage-protocol for regex 'ubuntuone*'
E: Couldn't find package ubuntuone*

My Ubuntu one did not seem to work or sync correctly anymore and I wanted to completely reinstall it.

I run
lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 9.04
Release: 9.04
Codename: jaunty

thanks
JP

Hi JP,

I'm not sure why you're receiving this message, as I've tested these instructions on a number of environments without any issues.

Can you try a couple of things and let me know the results?

1) $ sudo dpkg -l ubuntuone*
2) $ sudo apt-get install ubuntuone-*

Thank you,

Joshua

Hi JP,

OK, I think I know what the problem is. On Karmic, the original instructions work fine. For Jaunty (9.04), not so much. So I adjusted the FAQ to be more specific on the apt-get purge/install lines.

For you, I think you'll be able to get back up and running by following the install steps on our web site (again): https://one.ubuntu.com/support/installation/

Sorry for the inconvenience. I was able to reproduce your problem on Jaunty and was able to correct it by following the instructions on the site. Going forward, I think other users shouldn't run into this problem following the re-install instructions.

Thanks,

Joshua

Ok thanks,
I followed back the instructions and got it back installed.
It does still not do what I want it to do however.

I want to have a clean situation, no files on the WEB, nothing in the Ubuntu One folder.
the Ubuntu One folder is empty (except for the "Shared with me"), but the "Folders" file on the Web contains files I want to delete ALL...

Am I so blind I can't find the DELETE button or?

Hi same problem.

I had ubuntuone working when I first installed 9.10 UNR, then sometime about a week back it wouldn't connect any mpre. I've followed all the steps above to remove it and re-install it twice. No difference. It doesn't connect, doesn't give any errors and the first time I run it after reinstalling it doesn't take me to the web page, it just does nothing ..

Same problems as those listed above. Original installation worked EXCEPT opening Firefox and the Internet to register my computer. Error Message said: "Ubuntu One: Error. Error showing url: Failed to execute ch...efox/firefox" No such file or directory.

Removed, purged and reinstalled. No change. Logging in online shows no computers recognized. No files tranfered.

this probably means your browser is misconfigured, not Ubuntu One. Can
you open a terminal and run "xdg-open http://one.ubuntu.com"? If that
fails, try setting the right browser in System » Preferences » Preferred
Applications

Can you help with this problem?
