Hi Till,

The reason is explained in our privacy policy:

https://one.ubuntu.com/privacy/

"Like most website operators, Canonical collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor's request. Our purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how Ubuntu One's visitors use the website."

Hi Till,

The first couple of sentences of the "What we collect" section covers this. It is non-personally-identifying information Google actually forbids collecting personally-identifying information in their Analytics Terms of Service. And we do actually collect and use it to understand how our visitors are using the website.

Thanks!

Matt

Hi Matt,

my problem is not, that you need a tool to analyse the users behaviour, but my problem with google Analytics is: The Userdata is send to google and they make the analyse of the behaviour of users (who does not have anything to do with google) and only gives you an report of their analyse process. If an Analytics tool would be a tool, only running on your servers, there would not be a Problem, but you cannot give the users behaviours to other companies, which have the same policies as you, without mention, which companies are involed in the service. I do not have accepted the privacy policies of google or any other company. I just accepted yours. Because i thought, i could trust your service. And i do not automaticly trust google if i trust your service.

My point is, that a user should know, how have got access to his/her private contacts, data and behaviour. So the user should be asked to permit or deny the usage of google analytics. And the default setting should be the highest privacy setting.

This Service is not facebook. It is a online disc to sync private data. The user does not expect google knowing something about his private data and his contact's.

I hope there will be a switch to turn on/off google analytics.

Best regards,

Till

Hi Till,
Our privacy policy is accurate about the types of data that is collected and analyzed in Google Analytics.
By us using Google Analytics, Google does not have access to any data (contacts, files, bookmarks,...) that you store in your personal Ubuntu One account.
We will not offer a switch for users to turn on/off Google Analytics for the Ubuntu One website.

Can you help with this problem?
