ubuntuone-client-applet in Nightly PPA ubuntuone-client-gnome

Asked by Jovin Joy

ubuntuone-client-applet has been missing in the ubuntuone-client-gnome for the last few updates. Was wondering if it was intentionally dropped. If that is the case, would like to see it back packaged.

yes, the client applet was deliberately removed as a design decision.
it is being replaced by the Ubuntu One control panel applet in the Me
Menu. Of course, Jaunty doesn't have a Me Menu. I think we need to
figure out a strategy for Jaunty updates in the PPA - I'm thinking
they should be bugfix only, and not shipping betas of new releases.

Workaround:

You can go to https://code.launchpad.net/ubuntuone-client/+download
Then download ubuntuone-client-1.1.1.tar.gz

Inside the 'bin' folder are two files you'll want to copy to /usr/bin: ubuntuone-client-applet and ubuntuone-client-preferences

Make sure they're flagged as executable, then run ubuntuone-client-applet. It'll load the applet into the notification area. I didn't have to do anything else to make it automatically run at startup, but that may be because I used to have it set to before they removed it.

The 1.1.1 applet is working with the 1.1.2 release package.

I was also wandering what happened to the client-app. Thanks Russ!

Thanks, Elliott, for your answer, but I am using Karmic and for me, the answer is only partial. I never heard about Me Menu: is there a Me Menu in Karmic and where can I find or install it?

I found the answer regarding Karmic: there is no Me Menu in Karmic yet. Use the workaround with "ubuntuone-client-1.1.1.tar.gz", that worked perfect for me.

The removal of the client is deeply frustrating and affected me more in Karmic (it was an advertised feature of this release!) as well as Jaunty. I use kubuntu also.

It seems to work now. What a pest.

After upgrading to 10.04 I still don't have a 'me menu'. So what can i do now? How can I install the me-menu?

Can you help with this problem?
