What to do with IP Tables ?

I need to use SQUID . I came to know that its neccessary to know about IPTables and Firewall rules. I am not aware of it. Please help me....

Even with ufw, which is a frontend for ip-tables you could do great things, or with gufw which gives you a gui.

very easy to set-up, ip-tables itself will take some time...
Do mind: ubuntu comes with a zero open port policy.
