Can't install Avast on Ubuntu (usb stick)

Asked by TheArian

I'm trying to install Avast in ubuntu with the cmd listed below and get that message returned. The OS is installed on a 4Gb USB stick (don't see this as an issue...?) I'm new to the system, so please work with me here. My purpose of the install is to be able to scan an windows drive for viruses.

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo dpkg -i avast4workstation_1.3.0-2_i386.deb
dpkg-deb: `avast4workstation_1.3.0-2_i386.deb' is not a debian format archive
dpkg: error processing avast4workstation_1.3.0-2_i386.deb (--install):
subprocess dpkg-deb --control returned error exit status 2
Errors were encountered while processing:
 avast4workstation_1.3.0-2_i386.deb

Thank you.
