Probably because you have a dual core, and each core is showed as an independant processor.

Yes, you either have dual core or 2 single core processors. 32 bit Ubuntu (& most other 32bit versions of linux) have always been designed to take advantage of multi- just about anything. Windows is catching up. Dual core processor is more likely than 2 single core processors these days
