data recovery

i have xp and ubuntu dual o.s. installed.
yesterday my sister formatted F drive(60 gb) (which is my software drive ) by mistake.
formatted from ubuntu.
so is there any way to recover data of that drive. it had my very very important softwares .
plz help me out.

Sorry to hear that. It can be frustrating i know but next time it will be a good idea to use a label for a drive rather than remembering it as F drive ie call it backup or work drive or something along those lines.

If you formatted it with ubuntu there is a chance that you can get it back but the work involved is tedious. It also does not gurantee that all the data will be recovered and nevermind properly.

A simple try out will be to go to system >> administration >> synaptic package manager and in it search for data recovery tools. Install one that you fancy and give it a go by experimenting with it.

Note in no way should you write anything to the drive you want to recover data from because then the hard drive blocks will be filled with new data and the old data will be destroyed. If you have already done so, even if its very little, the data is very hard to recover and very very very time consuming!
