Hi,

First of all, make sure you have video card drivers installed that are capable of running the game. For ATI/AMD and NVidia cards you will probably need the proprietary display drivers from your manufacturer. If you have an ATI/AMD or NVidia graphics card, you can install the proprietary drivers by going to System -> Administration > Hardware Drivers. With other drivers and video cards the game may or may not work.

As for installing the game itself, there's a third-party blog post with what seems quite decent instructions here: http://www.blog.highub.com/linux/install-run-and-play-doom-3-on-ubuntu/

At least at the time of this writing those instructions seem to be up to date and, as far as I can tell, should work for 9.10. Please note that I don't have Doom 3 so I haven't actually tested those instructions myself.

Some notes about the installation instructions in that blog post:

- The terminal mentioned in step 4 can be found at Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal.
- Steps 11 and 12 recommend you to change the default installation path. I'm not sure if that's necessary, but I believe you can accept the defaults as they are -- no need to change them.
- In steps 21 and 24 you need to locate the doom install folder for copying the required files into it from the CD. If you use the default install locations suggested by the installer, the folder you need to copy the files into is /usr/local/games/doom3/base. If you decide to change the default install locations as suggested by steps 21 and 24 in the blog post, follow the exact instructions in the blog post.

Can you help with this problem?
