Unable to install Ubuntu 9.10

Asked by Siddharth

Hello Team,
I've download Ubuntu 9.10 and I tried to install it from the CD.Everything goes well, but when the point comes to disk partitioning,it says-"No root file system is defined. Please Correct this from partitioning menu".
I have a 320GB hard disk with 3 partitions.I wan't to install Ubuntu on my 15GB partition, but I'm unable to.I even deleted this partition and tried to format it in ext3 as suggested by an online supporter, but nothing more happened, what should I do to solve this problem.Pleas help.
Thank You

When doing the partitioning, you need to define for each partition you want to use for the Linux file system the followings:

- set to use one partition, formatted as ext3 (or ext4) and mounted as "/" for the root file system (that's what you forgot to do : to define the mounting point of your partition).

- set to use one partition used as swap (of size at least the amount of RAM on your computer - this allows for hibernating the system)

You may also wish to use a third partition, formatted as ext3 and mounted as /home to separate the personal data from the file system (which will allows you later to install an other GNU/Linux distribution or to reinstall your system if needed without worrying about the personal data that are always saved under :home).

Can you help with this problem?
