how to install Java

could describe your problem? is it streaming media or java you are asking for? what version of ubuntu do you use?

and leoquant, l cant install software without this java, and I user Ubuntu 9.10

Open a Terminal and input: sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

arochester, I type sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
and I got:
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?

please close all softwaremanagers, synapric/add remove/etc. and then run
: sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

"synapric/add remove/etc" what is it?

synaptic packagemanager and add/remove software centre are taking care of the software which is available on Ubuntu.
So you are able to install software via these softwaremanagers.....

In All I type in Quick seach : wine
and...
software that install:
wine1.2-gecko
wine
winefish
wine-gecko
arc-wine
shiki-wine-theme
gnome-exe-thumbnailer
gnome-wine-icon-theme
ttf-symbol-replacement
ttf-tahamo-replacemect

that what l installed.
what am l need?

I do not know what happen but i do not write that.
I solved my problem with the Terminal.
But the problem with Java still.
I installed java but the picture that i show you up still there.
What can I do??
