how to hibernate a session

Asked by bill purvis

I've recently upgraded to 9.10 from 8.04 and find that the shutdown/logoff/etc button has been replaced
by a 'switch user' button. Since I'm the only user this is of no value to me. What I want to do is
hibernate a session without logging off. At present all I can do is to logoff then hibernate, but then
I have to go through the login process again. Two questions really: can I replace the 'switch user'
button with the old 'shutdown/hibernate/logoff/etc' button and if so how. If not, how can I hibernate
a session without logging off?

Many thanks

Sounds like indicator-applet-session is missing.
Right click at empty space on panel -> add to panel -> search the list for indicator-applet-session
https://launchpad.net/indicator-session
