AVG Free v9.0: Is It Installed???

I've installed (or believe I've installed) AVG Free v.9.0 and don't see any logo displayed anywhere on my screen. I've also looked in the "Software Center/Installed Software" and I don't see it their either. I want to verify that I have in fact installed it and that I'm getting my daily updates. I am a complete newbie so please explain in simple terms. Thank you in advance.

UPDATE: I just read where running an anti-virus in Ubuntu is not recommended.??? I understand that Linux is a much safer OS than Windows but is it wise to not have any anti-virus at all?

AFAIK you don't need an antivirus in linux; 99,999% sure! :-)

Those antivirus for linux are intended to be used in linux servers that are accessed from windows clients just to protect them. Also it is interesting to have an antivirus in a linux machine that is acting as a mail server just to clean mails with viruses (just like having an anti-spam installed in that server too).

Probably the avg antivirus that you have installed is a server instance that is intended to work with samba (if you configure it that way) or with a mail server.

Just a Hint: I'm a network/server manager and I admin many windows and linux machines. I have clamav antivirus installed in my linux laptop just to clean my usb pendrives not to protect my linux system.

About your avg installation probably you aren't seeing it in "Software Center/Installed Software" because you haven't installed it using a deb package.

You should check the avg documentation in the avg site.

However as I've posted before you don't need to run an antivirus in a linux desktop.
