To select the best e-mail program

Asked by Jan Greeff

When I recently migrated from Windows and the Office 2007 Ms Outlook to Ubuntu, first impressions were that Thunderbird would be a better and easier e-mail program to use than Evolution. I seem to have a problem carrying over my e-mails and address book and after reading the reviews, I would like to firstly elicit comments as to whether my choice of Thunderbird was the right ons.

There is no best app for anything. Simply try a few to evaluate and use which you like. You are using an OS which emphasises choice and freedom yet you come onto a forum to ask other users to tell you what to use.

If you like thunderbird, use it. If you like evolution, use evolution. There is no "right one", it simply doesn't exist.

Thanks, makes sense. I like Thunderbird, but am having a problem to import my e-mails. All option I get is Communicator 4.x. but my mails are in a inode/directory folder on my desktop. I can also save them in a pst file.

When I initially installed T Bird, it imported the files automatically, but the program was on the same hard drive as Outlook. I subsequently started afresh on a different hard drive, where I also installed Outlook with the mails, but only after downloading and activating Ubuntu. Now the import facility does not work. Will it help if I run the Ubuntu setup files again?
