Can't Change Resolution in 10.04

Asked by Abhishek Acharyya

Till 9.10 everything was fine. But with 10.04 my resolution sometimes goes to 1280X1024 and then again back to 800X600. I wouldn't change it back to 1280X1080. Please help me.

Dear friend,

Please first try to reconfigure the xserver by typing ->sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

Then you should try from the menu in System > Administration > Hardware Drivers. Try to see if there is a driver waiting to be installed.
GOOD LUCK.

You will need an xorg.conf file to make it work. I don't expect 3D acceleration will work (desktop effects etc.) but you can certainly get a finer resolution. You will need to run:

gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

and paste in the sample xorg.conf on the forum, save the new file then reboot. Should be ok.

Can you help with this problem?
