Asus F5GL laptop drivers and plugins

Asked by Dilanka Ishara

My Asus F5GL laptop has many problems with Ubuntu and Kubuntu. I don't know how to install the drivers and other plugings. Please help me to do my work with Ubuntu. Many errors come when I'm gone to install the updates.

I recently and for a long while installed Ubuntu many versions for my Asus F5GL laptop. Even though I couldn't see a good result of detecting my drivers and still I cant activate the desktop effects. When I go through the Update Manager, it seeks the updates and fails to install them showing a networks problem. But there is no any network problems with my Laptop as I can surf internet usually via Firefox browser. I'm engaging with my stuff of studies in a Sri Lankan University and it is essential to use ubuntu here for further activities. I kindly ask you a better solution for me and quick reply. Thanks.

Manufacturer: Asus Corporation.

I suggest you first run:

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get -y upgrade; sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade

Software centre has a bug with network manager and it's very annoying, I don't know how to fix it but the CLI method should be fine. Maybe updates will get everything sorted.

To install the video driver, run:

sudo apt-get -y install nvidia-current

And you will be able to use effects and stuff. You have an Nvidia GPU which is highly supported under Linux (of which Ubuntu is a distribution of). Let the updates finish first, then run that command

thanks for the help. But still I couldn't see a clarity with it. Even when I try Ubuntu 11.10 i386 on my laptop, it only loads the welcome screen and stuck forever. But the setup CD I have downloaded is working when I try it on other machines. Is the Ubuntu not compatible to Asus F5GL series??? :(

yes I also faced the similar issue with my laptops drivers and plugins but then I read some guidance about it here on https://laptopadvise.com/ and after the two or three tries I managed it easily

Can you help with this problem?
