Dual Monitors

Asked by baker9252

Have nVidia GeForce 7300GT Dual video card. Went to their site and downloaded NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-100.14.11-pkg2.run and nvidia-xconfig-1.0.tar.gz. Double clicking on the first file and clicking "run" did nothing.
 I then used the command and typed sh and the title and run and again nothing happened.
How do I run these programs? I am new to Ubuntu and do not have the slightest idea of changing file xontents. Thank you.

first you need to UNPACK the file
Try on Console Mode (Terminal):

$ tar zxvf NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-100.14.11-pkg2.run
$ cd FOLDERCREATED
$ sh run

or

$ ./run

Maybe you need to explain more... but first UNPACK the file to a folder

I sent an Email over an hour ago, apparently it failed.
I tried the first line and it asked where the file was. How do I tel it that it is in the TEMP folder?
The second line will automatically change when it locates the file?

I started yesterday with wubi.exe. I then was told to download 118 updates which I did. About two hours later everything appeared to be working fine except the moitors. I went to the nVidia site and was told to download those two files in Ubuntu. Yeh!

In my WindowsXP I downloaded the nVisia files and voila I had both monitors working with no trouble. Not so with Ubuntu. I need help badly and I don't understand much about this program.
I did setup my Firefox and Mail Account (using Evolution) but I would rather be using Thunderbird. But thats another question.

I hope this mail gets through.

You dont need to download the drivers from nvidia and manually install them. You can just use System -> Administration -> Restricted Drivers Manger to install them.

Then, you can use nvidia-settings to help build a config file for TwinView. However NVidia doesnt currently support the automatic screen autoconfiguration that X.org supplies, so you still have to do some manual work here.

Once you install the drivers from ubuntu, there is some great information in /usr/share/doc/nvidia-glx/README.txt.gx to describe all the possible options (although for twinview this are quite extensive)

I installed Nvidia drivers through the Synaptic Package Manager. System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager.
Then type Nvidia in the search field in Synaptic Package Manager. This will bring up a list of Nvidia packages. Installing nvidia-current should be the one you need.

Can you help with this problem?
