14.10 freezes during shutdown on MSI GE60 with Nvidia Geforce GTX 765M

Asked by jean-christophe manciot

I know someone who "solved" this issue by installing a Nvidia driver.
Do you test your Nouveau driver on MSI computers and computers with Nvidia graphics card before rolling out new releases?
This is not the first time I'm experiencing a significant flaw with this driver.

More information about the issue can be found here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2250017

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?
If you burned a CD did you burn as slowly as possible?

Thanks

No problem at all regarding the shutdown/reboot

If you used proprietary video drivers then it is very rare for them to survive a release change. You will probably find you need to uninstall the driver and reboot then reinstall the driver.

Considering Trusty was ok (and LTS, supported til April 2019) why the upgrade to Utopic (onluy supported til July 2015)?

Please read my first post completely before making any asumption.

I never used any proprietary video driver, only the official Nouveau driver. All the answers to your questions are already in my first post. Oh but wait, you haven't read it completely.

Hence the "if" :-)

I suggest you report a bug. Be sure you have the latest BIOS (May need Windows to apply)

Can you help with this problem?
