Display is very dim after 11.04 installed; help?

Asked by j span

Ubuntu 10 worked great so I updated to 11.04 and now the video display is so dim I can hardly read anything. I tried redownloading and reinstalling but still the same. I tried both the 32 bit and 64 bit downloads.

Laptop Acer Aspire 5734z, dual core Pentium and 3GB DDR3 RAM, plus 250GB HDD, Mobile Intel 4 display chipset generic PnP monitor with HD LCD.

The dim screen makes Ubuntu 11 unusable, but I'd like to resolve the issue and not go back to Ubuntu 10.

Try using the brightness controls on the keyboard (probably Fn+Right Arrow it'll be a circle with radiating lines)

I have the same issue on my Acer Aspire 5734z, and adjusting the brightness did not change it.
