You may need an xorg.conf file to make the system load the radeon driver. Udev is failing and not working out what refresh rates the system can do (probably a cheap screen. You can override this with:

gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

There are LOTS of example files you can use but you will be wrestling with this file (Which is blank by default) until you get a good display. If you turn up blank I can have a go at formulating one.

yes it will, until you modify /etc/X11/xorg.conf

There isn't one by default. If one exists it will be used. Did you find any examples online?
