pointer too fast keypress makes no sound ubuntu 12.10

I have ubuntu 12-10 running on a Dell Optiplex 790.

I have the universal access checked to beep when a key is pressed and again when the key is accepted.

I get no key sound.

The sound testing works.

My pointer moves way too fast, even when set to as slow as it sets in mouse.

The command xset m 1 1 does not slow it down enough .
it is an intellimouse explorer 4.

I am a frustrated newbie with vision and movement problems.
