s3 vt8375 prosavage8 km266/kl266 problem on hardy

i am having problems with my video (s3 vt8375 prosavage8 km266/kl266), i can't run compiz and can't enable desktop effects. i checked direct rendering (using glxinfo |grep rendering), the result was 'yes'.

here is what i got when i ran lspci -vvv:

when i checked the screen and graphics preferences, the graphics card is s3 savage4 but without driver and blank video memory. when i try using other s3 savage drivers, the display would go blank.

what can i do so i can use the 3d and other capabilities of my video card? do i need a driver for my video card? where can i get it? how can i install it?

Unfortunately this video card is not compatible with the Compiz effects, and yes that take 3d effects ( I have the same model and the same problem), sorry.

You can try with Kwin a "compiz-like" option of KDE desktop (need install Kubuntu-Desktop), but is not that spectacular that compiz. If you like buy a new video card, (if you pc is not Laptop) buy Nvidia or ATI based chip compatible with your PC, there are not have problem with compiz.

Really compiz is spectacular but is not necessary.
