system crash upon going to fullscreen in video viewing

new to Ubuntu. having an issue when viewing movies, when i try to view in full screen, it crashes the system has to reboot. almost every time i click on , FULL SCREEN

I tend to go with all non-free components at first until i can work out if OpenSource is going to work well on my particular hardware. So far i've not had to pay for any of it :)
