Get dual monitors to function properly in 9.04

There is a bug in glib with the 9.04 release, that severely limits usefulness of a second monitor.

This is fully discussed in Launchpad https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/346964

A fix has been incorporated in updates to glib, but they are not available in jaunty repositories.

How can I fix this so that I can use my second monitor?

I have a dual head configuration (no xinerama) on current juanty. Any menu item chosen from a menu on screen 1 always opens on screen 0. If I direct a terminal window to open on screen 1 by manually setting it's DISPLAY variable then opening it, anything I open from that terminal will open on screen 1 (not surprising

There are many more problems than just a terminal opening, such as setting the number of desktops with gnome-panel.

This is a one instance only work-around.

A better work-around for this one instance is to select "open in terminal" from the drop down menu triggered by the right mouse button on the desktop. This however create additional problems.

Why is this question in xorg?

It is definitely not an xorg problem. It is a gnome/glib problem
