Cant save X org

Asked by swift240

Hi all using Ubuntu 8.10 with all updates.

I have a problem that I cant find and answer to.

At present I amusing an HP MX70 17inch monitor.

Screen resolution is 1024 x 768 how ever I used ot have 1280 x 1024 on Ubuntu 8.04 I could change that by using Screen Graphics.

But I can not do that that program is no longer there.
Instead I have tried to use NVidia X Server Settings.
X Server Display Configuration
I can change from 1024 x 768 to 1280 x 1024 not a problem but I cant save it out.

I get "Failed to parse X config"
'/ect/X11/Xorg.conf'

I really would like to keep the 1280 x 1024 screen resolution.

TIA,

Mike.

hmm, your problem appears to lie in your lack of root access. Run this in terminal to run Nvidia X Server Settings as root:

gksudo nvidia-settings

Hi, I have tried as you said, but I get this error.

VALIDATION ERROR: Data incomplete in file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
Undefined Device "(null)" referenced by Screen "Default Screen".
