Acer X193W 1440 * 900 60Hz vs Ubuntu 10.04

Asked by Jerry Story

The highest screen resolution listed is 1024 * 768 but my Acer X193W monitor can go up to 1440 * 900. I know this for a fact because it was running at 1440 * 900 until now. This bug suddenly happened for no obvious reason, while I was sleeping.

System -> Preferences -> Monitors says the monitor is 'Unknown' and 'Detect Monitors' does not work.

The 'File Search' does not find 'xorg.conf' in 'File System' or any other place except as documentation and there is not much in it.

I'm running 'Classical' instead of 'Unity' because Unity does not work for me, probably because I don't have a good enough graphics card.

How can I get Acer X193W to be detected? Or how can I tell the computer to try 1440 * 900?

I restarted and the resolution went back to 1440 * 900, what it's supposed to be. Computers are weird.
