i have recently upgraded ubuntu to ver11.04 and now it wont work

 The configuration defaults for gnome power manager has not been installed correctly.
since I got this messgae on my computer, i am not allowed to enter with my password and get only a black screen.

I did a restoratin and now once I entered my login and password, it is asking for

eeepc@eeepc-laptop:~$

I have no clue what to type next
please help, I am stuck with it since long time

- Boot from a live CD
- unmount your system partition (sudo umount /dev/sdaX)
- Run fsck on your system partition (sudo fsck /dev/sdaX)

Could you log in, type startx and report error message. I'm not expert in graphic, but I will do what I can.

Can you help with this problem?
