I suggest you install the 10.04 version which is more stable and LTS (Long Term Support)

I'm running 10.04 LTS and it's locking up the same way.

It could be a hardware issue. Can you try connect another mouse and see what happens?

Yes. I've tried a wireless optical mouse and a USB optical mouse. I may have a PS/2 mouse somewhere, but I'm not sure. The locking is random in the amount of time it takes, but sooner or later it locks up without fail.

Is this a fresh installation or an upgrade? I would recommend a fresh installation in the letter case. You can also boot using a livdCD or liveUSb and see if the problem persists.

It was a fresh install... several times. I tried liveCD and liveUSB. They both acted the same as the installation. I hate to say it this way, but I fixed the problem by uninstalling Ubuntu and installing Mint. Over 24 hours and no problems.

Ubuntu is a great system but like everything else is not perfect. I would suggest to file a bug with your detailed hardware setup for them to fix

Can you help with this problem?
