My monitor died and my replacement cannot support the resolutions???

My older CRT monitor died on me, and I only have a 17" flat panel monitor that cannot support the resolutions I have set at Optimum 1280x 1024 60Hz and I can't login to Ubuntu to make the changes to a lower resolution my 17" flat panel can support...

I can boot into Live CD, but I don't know what to do to mod my resolution so I can login to Ubuntu v.10.4.1, can someone help me thanks in advance!!!

Its 10.04.1 which is Lucid. What video card does:

sudo lshw -C display

Here what is stated:

To run a command as administrator (user "root"), use "sudo <command>".
See "man sudo_root" for details.

Is there a file I could edit to reduce the Resolutions to 1024 x 786 @ 60 Mhz, so I could login to Ubuntu 10.4.1???

Thanks for some help.

I did some research, google, youtube, and did it myself. I was able to edit the xorg.conf file to the specs for my flat panel monitor, but only after a couple of re-installs of Ubuntu 10.10!!!
