Broken packages unable to install wine

I bought my system with 7.1 version of Ubuntu and everything was ok until my graphics drivers went down. I talked to someone in support and they told me to reinstall with the disc again. After doing so I get a "Diskette drive 0 seek failure" on boot. Also I cannot download Wine which is a program I need. It says I've held broken packages and it wont let me install Wine. Please help.

seek failure on your hard disk? that's not good. I would recommend running the diagnostic software for your hard disk from the manufacturer's website. ie if you have a western digital you can get it from www.wdc.com

May you show the output from terminal when trying to install wine, please ? (command is : "sudo apt-get install wine")

I was able to install wine after putting a fresh d/l of Ubuntu back on. I have an issue now that I need resolved. I d/l Wine to use my USB wireless adapter for my home network. Of course the installation disc is for Windows. Ubuntu will read the disc but when you try to go through the set up process the installation disc is unresponsive when you try to click anything in the window. Have any suggestions? Thank you kindly.

The USB wireless adapter is made by eHome Networking if that helps any.

Are you trying to install a Windows driver for the adapter with Wine? If so, that will not work, Windows drivers do not work in Wine. If you want to use that adapter with Linux, you need to find a Linux driver for it.

Ok, do I just need to find a Linux driver for a USB wireless adapter? Or will it have to be specifically for my brand of adapter?

You might just need to plug it in and let Ubuntu detect it; the necessary drivers may already be available. I'm honestly not sure, I've never tried to work with a USB wireless adapter.
