using winetricks to install msie7

Asked by John Houston

I have winetricks inside of Installed Software>Wine Microsoft Windows Compatibility Layer.

I need to install msie7.exe. i have downloaded it in downloads.

Under "Installation using Winetricks in a new prefix without previous IE install"
somebody at wine suggested "sh winetricks msie7.exe"

sh complains "sh: Can't open winetricks"

there is no file named "winetricks"

I have done "sudo apt-get install winetricks"

is there a specific reason you need to install msie7? there are lots of browers available in linux that are superior to msie.

Most likely for web testing, making sure the pages render correctly...

Doesn't run. There is ies4linux but it's pretty poor. If you are testing I suggest you install a virtualbox and use IE in that in seamless mode. This will require resources to run a full Windows OS as well as an install medium and legal license.

No web page testing. The second suggestion is not bad.

Sorry, that guide was for IE8.

If you want a completely point'n'click interface, Vineyard or PlayOnLinux will install IE7 for you.
There's a very easy guide for installing IE7 with PlayOnLinux here:
http://www.liberiangeek.net/2010/11/install-run-programs-designed-windows-ubuntu-10-0410-10-maverick-meerkat/

Or a guide here for installing it without Vineyard or PlayOnLinux:

So far much better. The current status is Internet Explorer 7 is on the desktop. It gets an untrusted application launcher message. How to make it trusted?

Also it is running and displaying Bing. I don't know how it got there or how to get it back.
